'Offering
Entertainment, Enlightenment and Education'
As
the name implies, through Thought Theatre
SAGE presents skits, full length plays and employ other
forms of theatre that encourage us to think. Theatre in
this format offers an ideal canvas to present philosophical
themes. With children performing the plays, it gains an
added sweetness. The participants, benefit immensely by
the exposure, learning as it were, theatre, public speaking,
and are offered an excellent opportunity to bloom. Thought
Theatre in short, offers theatre as a form of entertainment,
enlightenment, and education. SAGE in turn gets a platform
to present its ideologies as well as gain some well-deserved
publicity for itself and its patrons.
Themes
for the plays are restricted to advocate the following
ideologies.
-
Simple
living high thinking / sustainable living themes
-
Cultural
evolution or revival themes
-
Jaiva
or self realization themes
-
Mystical
science themes

Above
and below are the three plays performed by students
at St.Xaviers High School Gandhinagar, last year as
part of the Dhira program. The first (above) was 'Seth
Paramananda,' which depicted the sublime concept of
voluntary simplicity.

The
second was 'Mava,' which addressed gutka/drug abuse
at school campuses.

The third was 'Professor and the boatman,' which depicted
the perspective difference between life-useful spiritual
knowledge and material knowledge.
Thought
Theatre Workshop - 1
A
new, Thought Theatre Workshop has already commenced at
St. Xaviers' High School, Gandhinagar. Once the plays
are ready, we hope to present them at various public venues
and possibly, as street theatre. Four
plays are underway in this first ever workshop. They are:
-
Chakra
- Which is based on the theme of the prodigal son.
-
Maharaj
Chatraketu - Which is a play from the Srimad Bhagavatam
and explains the concept of the soul.
-
Mahamurk
- Depicts the gross foolishness of having planned
everything to the last detail for this life yet, leave
unattended the preparation required for a future life.

Thought
Theatre Workshop in progress. Now, that's two kings
right there in the picture above! Maharaj Chatraketu
on the extreme left played by Negi, and Maharaj Mahamurk
played by Kaval. In the background are two queens.
Ms. Maninder (in pink) ED, SAGE, and Ms. Usha, Co-ordinator-Thought
Theatre Program, can be seen conducting play practice.
